Municipality of Tubajon
Tubajon, officially the Municipality of Tubajon (Cebuano: Lungsod sa Tubajon; Surigaonon: Lungsod nan Tubajon; Tagalog: Bayan ng Tubajon; Waray: Bungto han Tubajon), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Dinagat Islands, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 8,276 people.
The municipality has a land area of 90.00 square kilometers or 34.75 square miles which constitutes 8.68% of Dinagat Islands's total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 8,276. This represented 6.51% of the total population of Dinagat Islands province, or 0.32% of the overall population of the Caraga region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 92 inhabitants per square kilometer or 238 inhabitants per square mile.
The town became a part of the province of Dinagat Islands in December 2006, when the province was created from Surigao del Norte by Republic Act No. 9355. However, in February 2010, the Supreme Court ruled that the law was unconstitutional, as the necessary requirements for provincial land area and population were not met. The town reverted to Surigao del Norte. On October 24, 2012, however, the Supreme Court reversed its ruling, and upheld the constitutionality of RA 9355 and the creation of Dinagat Islands as a province.
Tubajon is politically subdivided into 9 barangays.
According to the Bureau of Local Government Finance, the annual regular revenue of Tubajon for the fiscal year of 2016 was ₱85,883,682.96.
Population by age group
According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest population in Tubajon is 5 to 9, with 943 individuals. Conversely, the age group with the lowest population is 75 to 79, with 101 individuals.
The population of Tubajon grew from 3,660 in 1970 to 8,276 in 2015, an increase of 4,616 people. The latest census figures in 2015 denote a positive growth rate of 1.72%, or an increase of 708 people, from the previous population of 7,568 in 2010.
The municipal center of Tubajon is situated at approximately 10° 19' North, 125° 34' East, in the island of Dinagat. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 1.6 meters or 5.1 feet above mean sea level.
