Municipality of Cagdianao
Cagdianao, officially the Municipality of Cagdianao (Surigaonon: Lungsod nan Cagdianao; Cebuano: Lungsod sa Cagdianao; Tagalog: Bayan ng Cagdianao), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Dinagat Islands, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 16,808 people.
The municipality has a land area of 249.48 square kilometers or 96.32 square miles which constitutes 24.07% of Dinagat Islands's total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 16,808. This represented 13.22% of the total population of Dinagat Islands province, or 0.65% of the overall population of the Caraga region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 67 inhabitants per square kilometer or 175 inhabitants per square mile.
Cagdianao is derived from kagdianao, an alternate form of kaagdao-an, meaning "place where mangroves grow", from agdao, a local name for a species of mangrove.
The town became a part of the province of Dinagat Islands in December 2006, when the province was created from Surigao del Norte by Republic Act No. 9355. However, in February 2010, the Supreme Court ruled that the law was unconstitutional, as the necessary requirements for provincial land area and population were not met. The town reverted to Surigao del Norte. On October 24, 2012, however, the Supreme Court reversed its ruling from the previous year, and upheld the constitutionality of RA 9355 and the creation of Dinagat Islands as a province.
Cagdianao is politically subdivided into 14 barangays.
According to the Bureau of Local Government Finance, the annual regular revenue of Cagdianao for the fiscal year of 2016 was ₱153,289,311.16.
Population by age group
According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest population in Cagdianao is 5 to 9, with 1,988 individuals. Conversely, the age group with the lowest population is 80 and over, with 167 individuals.
The population of Cagdianao grew from 4,342 in 1960 to 16,808 in 2015, an increase of 12,466 people. The latest census figures in 2015 denote a positive growth rate of 2.13%, or an increase of 1,761 people, from the previous population of 15,047 in 2010.
The municipal center of Cagdianao is situated at approximately 9° 55' North, 125° 40' East, in the island of Dinagat. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 5.6 meters or 18.3 feet above mean sea level.
